  • Had a few drinks here over the years. Haven't had any food yet. Will go again and would recommend.

To be frank, at this point, giving Molly Bloom's a negative review is kind of like kicking a small child in the face with a work boot. But, so long as their inability to execute on their claim to be "open" was going to potentially spoil our evening, permit me to tell you a story. We were regulars, once upon a time, and thought we would stop in for a few pints and some wings on Thursday night. When we entered, the band was sitting at the bar, there was one server (dark haired Sarah) and the cook (Will, who greeted us warmly) was still there. When the seats at the bar are taken, we will sit and wait for service. We usually get it within a few minutes, or at the very least, some kind of physical acknowledgement that the server is aware we are there and intends to come over. My girlfriend and I sat for 10 minutes while the bartender stood looking at her phone. Were her legs broken? No. She carried cases of empties past us without acknowledging we were there and returned to her perch. The band went outside to smoke. Surely, the statue behind the bar would come out and get our order. After all, it had been 10 minutes. Still nothing. So we took our business elsewhere. For good. Even the band asked us as we left, "You're not going to stick around?". After all, we were the only ones there. "No man. You can't complain about the service when there isn't any". Except, in actuality, you can. Was it arrogance or gross incompetence? Does it really matter? There have been some pretty bad servers in Collingwood. Look no further than the recently closed Admiral's Post that lost customers faster than a stabbing victim loses blood. The icy demeanor of the server (and by then there was only one) pretty much asked you to take your business elsewhere because you weren't welcome. At least they offered service if you made the choice to stay. What we experienced Thursday night at Molly Bloom's was the epitome of lazy, selfish, brainless behavior. If you want to make minimum wage and no tips, go work a register at McDonalds and let someone who is good at what they do takeover. When an employee like Sarah is allowed to display such a lackadaisical approach to customer service, it gives the entire venue a bad name and reputation. That's not saying the place has ever been a palace. When I started going, it wasn't that bad but regulars talked about how far downhill the place had gone (this is about 7-8 years ago). Believe me, it can't backslide much more. Another server has claimed that the place is on it's last leg because of illness in the family. Sorry about your luck, but if we're being honest here, you guys never gave a damn about your customers. Free pool day was cluttered with the drunken owner's neanderthal friends hogging the tables. Why not have them in on a different day and allow paying customers to take part in said promotion. Because you've been bleeding paying customers, too. I was in on a Friday evening when the above mentioned server seemed to be having trouble finding the pace of the crowd for the evening. And it wasn't packed by any stretch of the imagination. I've seen Molly's hopping pretty good and the experienced, professional members of the staff did not have trouble keeping the party going. On this evening, another server (blonde girl) showed up. Surely things would improve with four hands on deck? Shocker of the day, nothing changed. The two of them stood around more interested in each other's phones and company. The empties piled up on tables. People still waited at the bar for their drinks. When this place finally gets the proverbial 6 feet of dirt on it, there is at least two people who would be better off looking for an entirely new line of work. It's shameful that management, according to the other server, "just doesn't care if the service is bad". When even your employees are compelled to air that to paying customers because they're embarrassed by their co-workers' inaction, you've lowered the bar to where it can't be raised again. R.I.P. Molly's. Here's hoping someone else finds some use for the space.
